Quoting Toni Morrison

“Characters are like ghosts. They have nothing on their minds but themselves and aren’t interested in anything but themselves. You can’t let them write your book for you.” —Toni Morrison

  1. An interesting perspective, in light of things that I've read previously by others on how characters should write your story or book for you. Personally, I think that there's truth to be found in both approaches. We're all different, to some degree. We're all individuals. As such, I suspect that there's more than one path, more than "one size fits all," in how to approach characters in books and the writing of them and their respective parts in the books that they become participants in.
